6/1/08 Norrisville Members Attend Strawberry Festival at the Elementary School
On the first day of June, 2008 members of the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company visited the Norrisville Elementay School's strawberry festival. While at the festival members answered questions about the apparatus and fire prevention. Fire prevention helmets, literature and thermos' were handed out to those who visited our apparatus. A sunny day and good attendance made for an enjoyable and successful event for all. Rescue 1051, Utility 1099 and Chief 10' car were staffed by Chief Gustaitis, Captain Testerman, Lt. Watkins, Sgt. Over, and firefighters Watkins, Chaney, Gustaitis, and Nicholson.

5/31/08 Norrisville Members Attend Strawberry Festival at the Elementary School
On May 31, 2008 around 1900 hrs company 10 was alerted for an auto fire at the intersection of Fawn Grove Rd. and Harkins Rd. Engine 1012 responded with 5 and was informed by a Harford county sheriff that the auto was fully involved. While en route, the engine crew could see heavy black smoke emanating from a pick-up truck on Fawn Grove Rd. just south of Harkins Rd. Upon arrival Engine 1012 deployed a 3 in attack line and started suppressing the fire. Engine 1012's crew had the fire extinguished within minutes. A few moments later Medic 1091 arrived to provide for the patient. Patient Refusal. Units on scene were E1012, M1091, Chief 10, Chief 10-1 and U1099.

4/18/08 Engine and Engine-Taniker on Fawn Grove Barn Fire
On April 18, 2008 around 1900 company 10 was alerted to respond an Engine and Engine-Tanker for a barn Fire in Fawn Grove. The barn fire was at Thompson Rd and Kunkle Rd. Engine-Tanker 1025 responded with 4 and Engine 1013 responded with 5. Company 10 units arrived and found heavy smoke coming from a 1 story barn and units from Fawn Grove making an interior attack. 1025 advanced a back up line and 1013 began opening up the interior and checking for extension. The fire caused minor damage to the barn. Units operated on scene for about 2 hours.

4/18/08 Dwelling / Woods Fire on Davis Road
On April 18, 2008 company 10 was alerted to repond an Engine for a dwelling fire at 105 Davis Road. Engine 1013 reponded with 3. Chief 6 and Engine 612 arrived and advised they had a lawn mower on fire next to a house and the woods were on fire. Engine 1013 arrived and laid a supply line to Engine 612. 1013's crew advanced several hundred feet of forestry hose and helped extinguish the woods fire. Engine - Tanker 1025 was also requested and assisted with water supply. Both units cleared in about an hour.

4/5/08 10-50 PI with Rescue
OOn Saturday April 5, 2008 around 2030 NVFC was alerted for a 10-50 PI Rescue at Fawn Grove Rd and Harkins Rd. Engine 1012 was the first arriving unit and found a single vehile on it's roof on Fawn Grove Rd just north of Harkins Rd. Engine 1012 found a single patient trapped in the driver's seat. Engine 1012 stabilized the vehicle and Rescue 1051 utilized spreaders to gain access to passenger compartment to complete extrication. The patient was removed and placed in the care of Medic 1091. The patient was transported by MSP helicopter due to mechinism of injury. Units cleared around 2200.
Units on Scene: Engine 1012, Rescue 1051, Medic 1091, Utility 1496, Chief 10-1 and Chief 10. Engine 1013 and Utility 1099 handled the Landing Zone.

3/13/08 Members from NVFC participate in St. Baldrick's fundraiser
On Friday March 13, 2008 members from Eureka VFC, Felton VFC and Norrisville VFC participated in St. Baldrick's. St. Baldrick's in a fundraising event to help children with cancer. Participants get sponsors to dontate money and participants get their head's shaved. Chief Engineer Scott Over and Sergeant Andrew Rohrbaugh raised close to $800.00 and participated in the event. The event was held at Stewartstown Elementary School. A special thanks goes out to Eureaka VFC for organizing the event. You can find out more about St. Baldrick's by visiting StBaldricks.org.

3/8/08 Transformer Fire
While on scene of the rescue box company 10 was alerted for an
additional call for a transformer fire on Onion Rd. Engine 1013 went
enroute from company 10. 1013 arrived to find a telephone pole on fire on
the side of the road. The crew from the engine staged at this location and
eventually the fire extinguished itself. This was one of two incidents of
wires on fire that occurred during the PI rescue this night.

2/16/08 Ice Rescue Training
On Saturday Feb. 16, 2008 three members of the Norrisville Vol. Fire
Company attended Ice rescue training. The training was held at company 9,
then the practical was held at Glen Cove marina. Bill Reeder was the lead
instructor. Members in attendance were Sergeant Andrew Rohrbaugh, Sergeant
Travis Over and FF Jesse Greer. The training lasted about 6 hours and
covered basic ice rescue operations and techniques

2/11/08 10-50 PI
Early on Monday February 11th company 10 was alerted for a 10-50 PI on Whiteford Rd near Archer road. Units arrived to find a large 18 wheeler truck overturned on a sharp curve. The tractor trailer was leaking large amounts of fuel so the hazmat team was requested to pump the remaining fuel from the truck's tanks. MDE checked to ground for remaining fuel after the truck was uprighted. Units on scene included: Engine 1012, Medic 1091, Rescue 1051, Hazmat 2, Hazmat 4, and MDE.

1/29/08 Bad Weather brings 1050 PI
Shortly after clearing the woods fire the temperature in the Norrisville area began to drop. As the temperature dropped the rain began to fall causing very bad road conditions. At 0843 company 10 was alerted for a 1050 PI at Harkins Rd and Onion Rd.Chief 10, Engine 1012 and IV 1091 went enroute. While enroute to the call units passed about 20 other vehicles that had slid off the roadway due to the icy road conditions. Once units determined which vehicles were involved in the 1050 PI they began patient care. The 1050 PI was minor and IV 1091 transported 2 priority 3 patients to UCMC for treatment. Engine 1012 and Chief 10 remained on scene and assisted the HCSO with traffic control. 1012 cleared a 0929.

1/29/08 Woods Fire in Rock State Park
At 0634 hours on 1/29/08 company 10 was alerted for a woods fire at Madonna Rd and Telegraph Rd. Chief 10 and Brush 1041 arrived shortly after dispatch and found about a 3/4 acres of woods on fire, about 600 feet off the roadway. Chief 10 established command and requested an Engine company and DNR. This brought Engine 1013 and Central 40 to the scene. The crews from 1013 and 1041 strectched 600 feet of forestry hose into the woods and extingusihed the fire. Units operated on the scene for about and hour and a half. The last unit cleared at 0809.

1/29/08 2nd Alarm Building Fire at Station 56
At 0201 hours on 1/29/08 Company 10 was dispatched to respond an engine to York county station 56 for an AFA. Engine 1013 went enroute with 4 personnel at 0206. As members of York county station 56 arrived at thier station, they realized this was more then an AFA. A chief officer from station 56 advised they had a working fire and requested the second alarm assignment. At 0208 Engine-Tanker 1025 was dispatched on the second alarm, but placed in service shortly after they went enroute. York county 56 members were able to get all the equipment out of the station and put a quick knock on a fire in a mechanical room. Engine 1013 arrived on scene and operated for about an hour, Engine 1013 cleared at 0306. We wish station 56 the best of luck and a quick recovery from this fire.

1/17/08 1050 PD
Thursday was a busy day for medic 1091. They ran several mutual aid calls
for PI's throughout the morning and afternoon. Then early Thursday
evening, during the recent snow storm, company 10 was alerted for a 1050
PD on Harkins Rd Just past West Heaps Rd. Chief 10 was already on scene.
Engine 1012 arrived to find a single car into a telephone pole. The
vehicle was in the roadway so crews from engine 1012 controlled traffic
until Maryland State Police and the towing company arrived. During this
call medic 1091 was dispatched for a medic call near the firehouse as
well. Engine 1012 remained on scene for a little more than an hour
before clearing. Units on scene included ENgine 1012, Chief 10, and MSP.

Norrisville Honors New Life Member
The Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company presented Bill Norris with his Life
membership award at the January monthly meeting. Bill is a charter
member of the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company. Bill has also served in
the Baltimore County Volunteer Fire department as a member of Jacksonville.
Bill helps out around the company with administrative work and support
services. Bill has also served a few terms on the Board of Directors.
Thank you Bill for all that you do and congratulations you have earned
it!!!

1/1/08 1050 PD w/ Fuel Spill
On January first Norrisville received our first call of the year. We were
alerted at 8:50am for a 1050 PD (Property Damage) with fuel spill on route
136 near St. Mary's Rd. Upon arrival engine 1012 found a black car propped
up sideways against a telephone pole. Witnesses informed us that the
driver of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot. Luckily the officer on
the engine remembered passing someone on the way to the scene. Maryland
State Police were notified and found the driver walking on 136. It was
later discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Crews stood by
at the scene stopping traffic for approximately an hour until Delmarva
power was able to arrive. Units on scene included Engine 1012, Utility
1099, and Maryland State Police.

12/24/07 BLS/Rescue
On December 24th company ten was alerted for a medical call with rescue at
Kilgore Falls. Units arrived to find a female who had fallen near the base
of the waterfall and injured her arm. Because of the limited access to
where the falls are located and the patients inability at that time to
walk to the roadway Gator 688 was requested from Whiteford to bring the
patient out to the medic unit. Crews on scene loaded the patient into a
stokes basket and into the gator and removed the patient. Remaining units
cleared shortly after. Units on scene included Medic 1091, Engine 1012,
Rescue 1051, Chief 10-1, Utility 1099, Gator 688, Utility 671, and
personnel from the Maryland DNR.

12/14/07 Dwelling Fire w/ Rescue
Around 2200 hours on Friday Dec. 14, 2007 Harford County EOC dispatched Fire-Rescue box 610 for a dwelling fire with rescue. First arriving units found a 1 story SFD with heavy fire showing from an attached garage. Command confirmed no rescue. 1025 was the fifth arriving unit, they secured a water supply and assisted with opening up and checking for extension. Command held several units for extensive overhaul operations. The fire destroyed the garage but did not extened into the house. ET 1025 cleared around 0230. The cause of this fire is under investigation.

12/09/07 Dwelling Fire
At 07:23 hours company 10 was alerted for a dwelling fire on Draco Rd. in a 54-6 box. Engine - Tanker 1025 responded with 6 personell within one minute of the initial alert. Engine Tanker 1025 was the second arriving piece at the scene where they found a mobile home with smoke showing. The crew from company 10 deployed a handline and made entry into the structure on the Charlie Side. Crews from company 10 and york county station 54 worked together to extinguish the fire and overhaul the mobile home. Units were placed back into service at 09:03 hours.

11/16/07 Dwelling Fire/Smoke in Residence
At approximately 15:30 hours on Friday November 16, 2007 Company 10 was alerted for a dwelling fire on Jolly Acres Rd. Dispatch advised that the caller said the house was filling with smoke. Chief 10 arrived with heavy smoke in the dwelling and advised Engine 1013 to pull a line and bring in the thermal imaging camera when they arrived. After arriving engine 1013 pulled a line and checked the basement for fire using the TIC. It was determined that a can of ashes from the resident's pellet stove was the source of the smoke. Units on scene then ventilated the house by opening all windows and doors on the Alpha (adress) side of the dwelling. Final units cleared at 16:32 hours. Other units on scene included: Engine 1012, Engine-Tanker 1025, Car 1098 and other units from company 7, York County Station 54, and York County Station 56.

11/9/07 10-50 PI
At approximately 1700 hours on Friday November 9, 2007 Company 10 was alerted for a 1050 PI at the intersection of St. Pauls Church Road and Route 136. Engine 1012 arrived to find an accident involving two vehicles. A mini van and a paramount Pest Control vehicle. Chief 10 had command. After further investigation we established that the pest control truck was transporting several gallons of liquid pesticides and rat poison. Command contacted the Paramount company to determine what hazzards, if any, were present.Rescue 1051 was later requested to the scene for extra absorbent. Medic 1091 transported 3 patients to Upper Chesapeake Hospital. Other units on the scene included Chief 10-1, and Utility 1099.

10/07 Barn Fire
Company 10 was alerted for a barn fire off of Church Lane. Chief 10 arrived to find 2 out buildings, approximately 20ft by 40ft in size that were attached to an old barn foundation and a silo on fire. At that time Chief 10 requested two additional engines and a draft piece, along with the fire marshal. The first arriving engine, Engine 1013, deployed a blitz line at the base of the silo. Engine Tanker 1025, upon arrival, used it¢s remote controlled deck gun to attack the fire as well. The fire was reduced within the use of the first 5000 gallons of water. Later arriving units were used to haul water and for their manpower. Brush 1041 drove through the cornfield to control spot fires. York County station 56 (Fawn Grove) was used as a water supply unit and York County Tower 54 was used to secure the silo assist in overhauling the structures. Final units cleared after approximately 2 ½ hours on the scene. Approximately 30,000 gallons of water was used on this incident.

8/15/07 10-50 PI Rescue
At 23:34
hours, Wednesday, August 15th 2007, Company 10 was alerted for an engine to respond mutual aid into york county for a 10-50 PI near South Barrons Rd Near the state line. Chief 10 called enroute shortly before engine 1012. While enroute dispatch advised that there was a double ejection. Upon arriving chief 10 requested medic 1091 to respond as well. Engine 12 arrived to find a small car on its roof and a telephone pole snapped off. Several units from york county were already on scene. Trooper 1 and Pennsylvania's medivac were requested to search for a fourth person missing from the vehicle. After searching the area with flashlights and Trooper 1's infared detector it was determined that there wasn't a fourth person on scene. Chief 54 placed company 10 units in service shortly after.

4/28/07 10-50 PI Rescue
At 01:06 hours, Saturday April 28th 2007, Norrisville was alerted for a 10-50 PI. Call was re-allerted as a 10-50 PI Rescue at Harkins Rd and Broadway.
Units arrived at location to find the car in a tree off the roadway. There were a total of 4 patients, including a Priority 4 upon arrival at the scene.
Units on scene for prolonged amount of time due to extended extrication.
Units on the scene were: CH10 E1012 E1013 R1051 B1041 M1091 and M56. Last unit cleared 9:15 hours.

4/15/07 Barn Fire
At 9:58 hours, Sunday April 15th 2007, Norrisvile was alerted of a building fire. First arriving unit Engine 1013 found a 100 X 60 foot barn 3/4 involved. Engine 1013 crewed made an aggressive attack with a 2 1/2 preconnect to knock down the fire. Crews from Harford, York and Baltimre counties were alterted for man power and water requirements.

2/11/07 2nd Alarm Dwelling Fire
At 5:59 hours, Sunday Feb. 11th 2007, Norrisville was alerted of a dwelling fire on Salt Lake Rd. First arriving unit found dwelling 3/4 involved. Chief 10 immediatly hit a second alarm box bringing in crews from Harford County Stations 6,7,9 and 10 and PA stations from 54, 55 and 56. An aggresive intial attack by the crew of 1013 knocked the fire down. It took several crews from surrounding companies to completely control the fire since no interior attack could be made. Last remaining unit cleared the scene at 9:42 pm.

12/26/06 10-50 PI Rescue
Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company had received a call for a 10-50 PI Rescue at 5:19 AM, December 26th. Accident occurred on Harkins Rd and Picker Rd. Arrived, patient trapped-MVA. Crews 1012 stabilized, 1051 started the roof removal process. Lighting of area by 1012,1051,1013. Re stabilized after roof removal. 1091 crew assisted by engine crews. Removed patient straight out toward the rear of vehicle. Extraction complete: 50 min.

12/23/06 10-50 PI-Box 1003
Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company had received a call for a 10-50 PI on December 23rd, at 11:52 am. Accident occur between Rocks Rd. & Constitution Rd.
